Mark Twain – Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

This is something that concerns me. It was certainly something that I experienced from my ex-wife in the embryonic Mac-Sys. When the hard times came and I needed it most, the support vanished.

I feel sometimes now, when I talk to others (friends, family, my SO) about some ideas that I have on what I’d like to do next, they’re more critical than objective. Like they consider that having ideas is above the station we have been assigned.

  1. Having someone you can bounce ideas off is the best thing in the world.

    I’ve also known “enthusiasm sappers” who think it’s helpful to point out every flaw in an idea or just deride something either through jealousy because they didn’t think of it first, or just because they dislike change and the effort that goes with it. It’s always a good idea to stay away from those people. They will never achieve anything, and will do their best to make sure those around them don’t either.

  2. The bouncing of ideas is kinda what infurious is about. It’s going to be a long while before I can dedicate anything other than minute to writing code so for the most part it’s about the conversation.

    I’ve exorcised my demons and removed people who were causers of apathy and distractions.

  3. I agree with John! Belfast is full of nay-sayers and bluffers. Find people you respect and talk with them. I have a few ‘informal mentors’ i.e. people who are direct and honest but not negative who have faced the same or similar challenges – and that excludes all bureaucrats, most consultants, service providers and wannabes! 😉

Its always good to have people to bounce ideas off, and you will always will be able to tell who your real supporters are,they will always listen and respond but yes,you may not like what they say ; ) no matter how crazy,weird or far fetched those ideas may be! You always constantly amaze me with your drive, determination and achievements.. its infectious.. Dont stop : )
