Your “fascinating pattern of checkpoints” is a deliberate artefact by the developer. From the FAQ:
if you zoom in you’ll see the points are constrained to a grid, so your exact location is not revealed. The underlying database has no such constraints, unfortunately.
OK, I will pay good money for a more accurate lifestream map! And with the ability to notify when people were at the same gig at the same time!
As far as I can tell from the video of the two guys discussing the app, they seem unsure about the “artefacts” in the data too
