Language Learning for Kids?

I’m looking for resources for teaching young kids Spanish and French. In my ideal world these would be iPhone or iPad apps, with goal-based outcomes built-in. Seems like a missed opportunity. Of course, this is one of the things I’d like my new startup to build. Assisted Learning Experiences. Teaching by Asking. Learning through Play. Assessing by Doing.

That’s one of the reasons I’m pumped to be going to Learning Without Frontiers next week. I’d love to put together a group of folk interested in technology based learning and teaching. I even registered a domain for the grouping!

  1. Count us in on your interest group please Matt. Our focus in on virtual worlds rather than touchscreen tech but it’s equally about — “Assisted Learning Experiences. Teaching by Asking. Learning through Play. Assessing by Doing.”

  2. This sounds interesting Matt, I’d be interested in a
Community of Practice or Special Interest group. We have a PhD
student looking at teaching through film production rather than
other forms of assessment who might be interested. There is a
similar group which works out of Manchester Met. University with
Nichola Whitton and Keri Facer that worked really well called
CREATE that do some interesting work

  3. Having kids this is a great topic. I homeschool my children
and turn to the iPad for resources more times than ever in
technology. Finding ways to bridge this gap of tech &
learning is huge. These days kids learn more outside school,
because as one speaker in the video over at Learning without
Frontiers said, kids don’t care about many forms of teaching or
formats by which they are taught. Harnessing that caring, both in
classrooms, but in tech/learning… hmmmm… gonna give that more
thought fer sure. Thanks for the mention of Learning w/o Frontiers,
inspiring stuff. Here’s one of my favs, the message and the
    presentation are spot on:
