I like MobileMe.

I dislike the fact that I cannot apply rules to move messages to folders in MobileMe, it has to be done on the mail client and only works on the client. That sucks. It means that I can’t really use my MobileMe account for mailing lists because it doesn’t filter and neither does the iPhone so your inbox gets filled with crap.

Apple’s Mobile Me Mail effort: 4/10 for lack of attentions to detail.

  1. Totally, “Exchange for the rest of us” was quite a marketing line given you can’t apply server sided mail rules. Basically you will get all the mail on the web and iphone access and none of it is filtered until you get to your mail.app

MobileMe syncs mail rules for sharing on multiple computers yet it is was simply applied at server level we would be happy.

Hard to complete with Gmail otherwise. It completely turns me off using my mobileme email account for pretty much anything.

I blogged about it on Digmo a few times and from what I can see from the stats there are a lot of people searching for the same service – come on Apple !

  2. I agree, but I leave my iMac at home on 24/7, so in effect its doing all that in the background for me. I rarely, if ever, see junk-mail on my iPhone as a result, and all stuff gets sent to the folders it belongs to – although I wish the iPhone would recognise unread mail in folders other than the Inbox.

I know for an awful lot of people this is a ridiculous solution though!

  3. One might suggest that if you find that content “crap” then perhaps you should just unsubscribe to the lists in question? This is coming from someone who does a lot of that same filtering on the server (gmail) to avoid gunking up my inbox. What I’ve found is that I really don’t care about a lot of the lists I’m on, and have drastically reduced my subscriptions. Searchable online archives FTW.

  4. MobileMe doesn’t do well on Server Side AntiSpam and doesn’t do filtering at all nor on the iPhone. This means the stuff I’m trying to read gets mixed in with stuff I don’t want to read.

And yes, this affects the Nutters list.
