pTerm, a new SSH client for the iPhone has been released – but seems to be only in the US App Store.
Why is this important to me?
Because I’m managing customers while away from the office. That’s the way things go when you work alone.
Thankfully there’s been no emergencies and all requests were handled using a web interface which works fine on the iPhone. It would be nice to have SSH though because for my hosts with Pair, I would be the only person checking on them. The servers with host.io would be checked elsewhere.
So, roll on the UK release. Means I’ll be able to relax better.
Mmm I got a reply from the developer on my LiveJournal last night after my days’s tweets appeared.

I’m the developer of pTerm. I found your blog and twitter entry regarding pTerm being missing from the non-US/Canada App Store.
I am currently awaiting government approval for export. This process is slow but progressing. I’m anticipating receipt of approval by the end of August or early September, at which time it will be available to the rest of the (Western) world.”
Where encryption is concerned with the US government, better safe than sorry. No sense in inviting a visit to Gitmo.
