Projects
Code4Pizza – take your CyberCafe with a difference and open the doors in the evening to folk who have some great ideas. Provide them with books, the internet, top of the range tools and some mentoring both in business and technology and then to top it off, you order in pizza. Code4Pizza is a social enterprise. We’ve started this off by sending FOI requests to Translink. Check out http://code4pizza.com for more detail.
XCake Summits – the gathering of XCode developers (the IDE for Mac and iPhone) which will bring some guidance, chat, fraternity to the Irish and Northern Irish community.
VI (6) – the first and only entrepreneur-led and startup-focussed incubator. We are taking six companies under our wings for six months in return for 6% of revenue (during those 6 months) and 6% of equity. We’re going to introduce them to mentors, potential investors, put them through an investor readiness programme and help them build an operations plan that will see them grow. We’re only interested in startups with global vision and potential global reach. If they make it big, we win and the incubator grows. If they fail, we lose. See what we’re doing at http://startvi.com/.
The rest of these are largely on hiatus..
The New Workspace – first conceived in 2006 (and business plan submitted), this would be a coffee shop-coworking space-business incubator in the centre of Belfast. As it required investment and Belfast had no history of investors in technology or social space, this project is ongoing. Parts of it may be reborn in CoWorkingBelfast. This was the opening of a CyberCafe with a difference. Rather than paying your pennies for access to the internet on low spec machines with small screens, you’re paying for access to fast machines with two large screens and use of great software like Final Cut, Logic, Creative Studio, XCode.
Nomadic Games – the construction and management of Alternate Reality Casual Games. Games with strategy and story that you can play without disrupting your work/life balance.
Voyheuristics – a UI development initiative designed to help companies find the best UI for their product. We’re seeing excellence in UI fall by the wayside and be replaced with flashy interfaces. The name stands for “appropriate solutions found by watching people”.
Murdershorts – a series of short films mixed with a clue-based Alternate Reality Game to create a visual choose your own adventure. And the toolset to enable self creation of these interactive movies.
Project 49 – In 2009 (aged 37) I’ve decided that in 2021, when I turn 49, I’m getting on a yacht and not coming back until I’ve been around the world.
